Senior Java Engineer

The Web Engineering team is focused on continually expanding and enhancing Shutterfly’s website. This highly transactional website must serve millions of customers thereby providing interesting challenges to the web engineering team. Responsibilities:

This position is a hands-on role that requires a highly-motivated individual who can handle a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:

• The design and development of scalable core modules to support both the Shutterfly website and Shutterfly web services.
• The logical design of database schemas
• The gathering and analysis of requirements
• The implementation of features and services, including basic unit testing.
• The management of projects through the full software development lifecycle.
• Collaboration with other members of engineering on large-scale projects.
• Collaboration with Marketing, Interaction Design, QA and Operations departments

Key Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 7 years of commercial server-side development experience in Java, preferably on Linux/UNIX.
• Experience implementing scalable server-side web-based applications.
• Ability to understand large complex systems
• Ability to come quickly up to speed on large code bases.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced company with short release cycles.
• Strong object-oriented design skills; practical experience with design patterns.
• Strong experience with relational database design and implementing database-connected applications.
• Good communication and personal skills.
• Leadership experience desired.
• Experience at Consumer Focused site is highly desirable.
• BS / MS in Computer Science highly desirable.
