Sr. Oracle DBA

Shutterfly is looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to join it’s Internet Operations Team. The position requires 5 or more years experience as a production Oracle DBA. The successful applicant will be responsible for the design, implementation, data integrity, and ongoing operations of production databases across the enterprise. Strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and database development skills are required. The role will require participation in a 24×7 on-call support rotation.

Responsibilities:

• 24×7 database administration for all production Oracle databases and supporting software
• Data Warehouse administration, ETL support
• Back-up/Recovery Procedures – Expert knowledge of data retention and recovery practices for Oracle OLTP and Data Warehouse databases and in-depth knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of all High Availability methods
• Monitoring disk space, performance and data loading applications for all production databases
• Provide design and development assistance to Engineering teams for new products
• Regularly keep management abreast of technical issues and their impact o the business
• Proactively recommend process and development methodology improvements
• Ensure proper technical design and documentation

Key Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience as a senior DBA in a 24×7 production environment 5+ years
• Strong commitment to 24×7 environment monitoring, metrics generation and logging, issue ticketing, on-call rotation schedule
• Proficient at capacity monitoring and management capabilities
• Oracle 10g experience highly desirable
• Expert Understanding of Oracle 9i RDBMS on Sun Solaris
• Expert understanding of Oracle database administration best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization and use of hints)
• Experience with database support software and procedures (i.e. Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Volume Manager, OEM, SQL Loader, etc.)
• Extensive experience with high-volume OLTP database systems
• Must have extensive UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL experience
• Perl scripting ability a plus
• Ability to analyze and resolve data issues
• Understanding Data Warehouse Architecture and concepts and experience with high volume data analytics requirement is an advantage
• Ability to write deployment documents for new releases
• Experience in deploying database changes for new database releases with minimal downtime
• Experience in disaster recovery is a plus
• Experience with terabyte databases is a big plus
• Experience in SAN environments (NAS experience a plus)
• Veritas Clustering production experience desirable
• Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
• Highly motivated to solve problems quickly and completely; proven troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze problems by type and severity and understand complex relationships between various infrastructure components
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Exceptional attention to detail, process, and quality
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities is a necessity
• Must have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with team members
• Experience with MySQL desirable
