Ad Operation Manager
Shutterfly is launching an advertising/sponsorship revenue program, and are looking for a superstar ops/analyst to help us build and grow it. Seeking an experienced online ad operations pro with the business savvy and quant skills to play an active role in business modeling, database development, interacting with product management and marketing to build the right offerings, and managing a testing program and ultimately fulfilling on the promise of a robust sponsorship program.
Though a solid basis in online ad ops is essential, the key hire will bring much more; a passion for the media side of the business, an understanding of what it takes to build and maintain outstanding advertiser/agency relationships, and a desire to be part of building a first class media property within the Shutterfly site. We’re building a metrics-based operation, and this individual will play a critical role in developing and managing the metrics that drive results.
Reports to VP Sponsorships
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Interact with Engineering, Product Management and ad server vendor to insure a smooth implementation of our ad serving solution
- Work with VP Sponsorships and Product Management to develop pre-launch ad testing programs, developing the right tests to drive a metric-based sponsorship program
- Develop and refine business models and bottom up budgets to manage sales expectations
- Manage a prospect database, liaison with marketing to get messages to this list of qualified prospects
- Manage web analytics program, gathering data, sharing it effectively, and drawing relevant conclusions to optimize the program
- Develop and maintain yield management processes to allow us to optimize revenues from ads and sponsorships
- Once ads are live, work closely with buyers (agencies and marketers) to assure complete satisfaction
- Hire ad trafficker(s) as needed
Key Metrics
- Revenue
- Ad effectiveness/performance; work with VP Sponsorship to define appropriate measurements and expectations to ensure delighted customers
- Revenue per page and working with ecommerce group to assure optimizing each page’s revenue in the best way possible
Desired Skills
- Strong Excel and basic financial modeling skill
- Ability to build a business case for a point of view
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects across the organization, manage deadlines

- A creative problem solver with analytic and strategic thinking skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Basic knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, Flash and various rich media technologies
- Experience with Hitbox and Omniture or similar web analytics
- Data warehouse experience, ability with SQL queries and data gathering a plus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapid growth environment
- Be an evangelist and advocate for high quality online advertising, a belief that you can brand online
Experience Sought
- Deep experience with Atlas, DART, or other leading ad servers
- Must have hands on ad trafficking, optimization and reporting experience
- Experienced at yield management and ad optimization
- Experience with a range of web analytics tools, ability to turn data into useful information
- Hands on experience with all the common online pricing systems, and ability to back into a CPM from projected CPC returns, and manage ad campaigns to deliver that outcome
- Experience in client services, customer facing role
- Experience with integrated content sponsorships a big plus
- Experience with Salesforce.com a plus
- Some e-commerce experience a big plus
- 4-7 years experience at an online media property, multiple media companies even better
- Bachelors degree
