Technical Accounting Manager

Shutterfly is recruiting for the newly created position of Technical Accounting Manager. This position is a key member of the Financial Accounting / SEC Reporting team at Shutterfly, and will take on primary responsibility for all technical accounting research and its application to both internal and external reporting and all SEC reporting. This position will also play a key role in M&A due diligence and partner with the business development / corporate development group when structuring contracts and strategic arrangements. The Technical Accounting Manager will work closely with the Company’s public accounting firm (PricewaterhouseCoopers) during the quarterly and annual review/audit process. This position offers the successful applicant the opportunity to leverage an extensive background of technical accounting and SEC reporting with the intensity and dynamics of a high-growth e-commerce company. This position will report to the Director of Financial Accounting, and share supervisory duties with that person over a small team of professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze accounting issues and their application to internal and external reporting. Summarize the resulting analysis and conclusion for both executive review and to record in the general ledger.
  • Team with business operators and FP&A Group to understand budget implications and implement planning strategy for these accounting issues.
  • Lead accounting policy standardization efforts.
  • Lead quarterly external SEC filing process, including drafting and reviewing documents, ensuring quality, and administering strict timeline.
  • Lead annual external SEC filing process (10K) including working across the entire organization to refresh all annual disclosures; draft and review document; coordinate legal and executive review; and ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Team with Corporate Accounting Group to facilitate quarterly and annual reviews and audits by external auditing firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
  • Team with HR and Stock Administration group for FAS123R accounting (including valuation and forecasting) and administration.
  • Provide accounting and finance due diligence support for M&A transactions.
  • Team with Corporate Development / Business Development and the Legal group to review contracts for structuring and accounting issues.
  • Remain current through trainings and other events on all SEC and Technical Accounting issues.
  • Other special projects as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • 5 - 7 years experience, with at least 5 years of experience at Big 4 public accounting firm.
  • Proficient in SEC reporting and accounting research.
  • Candidate must be team oriented, and able to partner with all functions. Candidate must be able to clearly articulate accounting issues and resolutions to all members of the organization.
  • The ideal candidate will have great communication skills, be highly organized, be detail oriented, have excellent analytical skills, and be a team player
