Sr. Systems Engineer, Share Sites

The Senior Systems Engineer is expected to have expert level systems administration skills on Windows server platforms, and should have extensive experience with IIS. This position will focus on systems and application stability, security, performance, and capacity management, as well as documentation. The role requires participating in an on-call support rotation. This position works closely alongside the Shutterfly Engineering and Operations teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide stellar customer support. The Senior SE also provides direct support to the manager of Shutterfly Engineering on a wide variety of technical and administrative work. The role requires someone who is creative, innovative, and highly motivated. The Senior SE must be prepared to work in an extremely collaborative and exciting environment!

The Senior IT Systems Engineer is responsible for:

• Systems Administration and Support: executes day to day maintenance tasks including problem determination and resolution, as well as root-cause analysis. Responsible for responding to live site issues and for executing software, platform, and configuration changes.
• Documentation and Training: provides and maintains documentation of systems architecture, troubleshooting and support guidelines, system metrics, project information and plans, and training information for both engineering and operations staff.
• Systems Management: ensures the use of performance data and historical metrics to effectively plan for growth needs, plan upgrades, migrations, and optimizations, new implementations, identify and resolve efficiency issues, and improve functionality.
• Product Testing: provides support for integration testing, system testing, regression testing and load testing prior to the final release of new and upgraded products and services.

Qualifications:

• Responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of a large internet-scale social networking web site with millions of monthly unique users.
• Proven technical expert in relevant state of the art technologies and systems, accompanied with expert systems design understanding.
• Leads large scale projects involving a variety of internal and external teams, coordinating several people through all phases of planning and execution.
• Minimum 5 years experience with relevant internet technologies and with implementing, administering, and supporting production websites and backend support systems.

Specific Skills Required:

• Windows server administration experience required. Expertise in system installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures
• Web server (IIS) and application server (ASP.NET) expertise including installation, administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures
• Understanding of internet standards such as - DNS, SSH, HTML, XML, SNMP and other protocols
• IP communication and packet structure, with focus on HTTP protocol and experience with network protocol analyzers
• Experience in at least 2 relevant scripting or programming languages (Perl, JavaScript, PowerShell). Application development/engineering experience is a huge plus
