Careers At Shutterfly

PICTURE YOURSELF AT SHUTTERFLY

Fostering a great work environment at Shutterfly starts with providing a positive experience to job applicants throughout their candidacy. We strive to be transparent about the hiring process and to demonstrate as open communication as possible with all job applicants — just as we encourage transparency and open communication in our everyday work culture.

Each of the sections below is intended to help you become familiar with and to prepare for steps in our hiring process. When you’re ready to begin, select the Available Position you want to apply for and follow the instructions for submitting your information to us. We’ll look forward to being introduced to you and seeing how you might make an impact at Shutterfly.

The Hiring Process

Here is what you can expect after submitting your application for one of our open positions:

  • Initial Screening

A Shutterfly recruiter will review your qualifications and experience. Applicants whose resumes appear best suited for the position will be contacted for a preliminary phone screen. This initial contact will enable the recruiter to gather more detail about your background and to clarify or put context around information on your resume. Top candidates for the position will be invited to in-person interviews.

  • On-site Interviews

Whether the job is in our corporate headquarters or one of our production facilities, we try to conduct interviews on-site so that candidates begin to feel the spirit and energy of our special workplace. Candidates will meet the hiring manager during the on-site interview, and depending on the role, other Shutterfly employees may participate in the interviewing process as well. Throughout this stage we focus on scheduling accuracy and timeliness, so that all interviewers respect the candidates’ time. We want your interview experience to be positive and engaging.

  • Hiring Decision

The hiring manager will confer with the other interviewers to gather feedback. The hiring decision can take some time, especially when there are multiple potential great hires, but we try to move as quickly as possible in making a final decision. Once we select the best candidate for the position, the hiring manager and/or recruiter will contact the candidate with a job offer. Those candidates who do not get an offer of employment will be notified so that they can pursue other opportunities.

Employee Perspectives

Employee Profiles

I’ve been with Customer Service for over 10 years, and the best thing about my job is that I’m truly empowered to help customers. We don’t use a lot of complicated procedures or pre-written scripts. No matter what the issue, we take the time to listen to our customers, understand their individual concerns, and then work with them to find a solution. Our customers really appreciate the extra care we provide, and it’s because of the trust Shutterfly has in Customer Service to do the right thing.

Employee Profiles

I joined the company more recently than most of the people I work with — and what I enjoy most about my job is interacting with different departments and people. In addition to my daily responsibilities, the company puts together many events that allow you to interact with your fellow colleagues, including charity races, team building events, and regular all-hands update meetings. In terms of my personal development, I feel that my manager takes a genuine interest in my career. Besides regular on-the-spot feedback, we meet formally on a quarterly basis, to review my goals, performance, and career objectives. This is a perfect opportunity for me to understand what I am doing well and to discuss any training courses that I am interested in taking to promote my learning. Furthermore, the perks at SFLY are great. I get free and discounted merchandise that give me the opportunity to create and try new products that I can share with my family and friends.

Employee Profiles

Shutterfly embraces innovation, creativity and risk-taking like a startup but has all the stability, brand name and customer following of a well established company. I think that Shutterfly has the best of both worlds in this regard. Very rarely does a person get to work on cool and cutting edge technologies and at the same time build great experiences for millions of customers. I feel very lucky and proud to be able to do that every day here at Shutterfly!

Employee Profiles

I joined Shutterfly in 2008 as Staff engineer. I came from a startup where the work was focused and there wasn’t any micro-management. Shutterfly is very similar to a startup, in that it is always focused, yet gives you freedom at work and lets you have flexible work hours when required. Shutterfly plays a fascinating role in its customers’ lives by providing them with means to share, publish and preserve their memories through a very compelling and mature product line. I get to innovate in the "share and publish" part of Shutterfly. The feedback from the customers makes me feel proud about what I do and motivates me every day to work on new features and tools.

Employee Profiles

I’ve been a Lead in the Photo area since early 2008. The Charlotte facility has grown tremendously during this period, and at the same time, has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I think Shutterfly is a great place to work — and the best part of my job is the people I get to work with. It is working on a great team that gets me ready to come to work every day.

Employee Profiles

Shutterfly takes chances, and it’s the spirit of innovation that makes it exciting to work here. A great example of this was the development of our Simple Path product. We brought together a cross-functional team to conceive, design, and engineer a break-through photo book creation experience that reaches potential customers in new and relevant ways. Owning the end-to-end experience, from physical product design to online personalization to package in the mail, gives us a unique opportunity to connect with and delight our customers across all those touchpoints.
