Q: What resolution should my image be? What does it mean if the image for my canvas print is “not recommended”?
A: We recommend using an image with a minimum resolution of 2048x1536 for our canvas prints. If you receive a “not recommended” warning, then the resolution of your image is too low to produce a satisfactory print.
(Please note that our recommendations are based ONLY on the overall resolution of your picture, and not on the overall quality or clarity of the original picture. We are not and cannot be responsible for the original picture being blurry or out-of-focus, even if there is sufficient resolution to be ‘recommended’.)
Pictures that fall below our recommended resolution guidelines may look okay when viewed online, but will appear blurry and pixilated — that is, the image will appear blocky, with jagged rather than straight edges — when enlarged and printed.
To check the resolution of your pictures once you have transferred them to Shutterfly, go to the View page and click on the thumbnail image; you will then see a larger version of the picture, with recommended print sizes. Above these, hold your cursor over the lowercase ‘i’. Among the information displayed you will find the resolution.

Q: Can I add text to my canvas print?
A: Shutterfly offers customers the ability to add text to their canvas print by the use of our caption borders. These borders allow text to be added either on or below the image (depending on the type of border that is chosen). As with all our enhancement tools, there is no additional charge for adding text. Please preview carefully, as Shutterfly is not responsible for incorrect spelling and border choices.

Q: Will an invoice arrive with the canvas print?
A: Shutterfly does understand that orders placed from our site are sometimes sent as gifts. A packing slip is included with all orders shipped, however, it does not include pricing information. Pricing information is sent only to the customer in their order confirmation email. We also offer customers the ability to include gift notes when shipping to other recipients.
