Q: How does Shutterfly's film service work, compared to uploading pictures from digital cameras?
A: Shutterfly's film service lets you submit film using our prepaid mailers. Once we receive your film, we process it, scan the pictures at high-resolution, and add the pictures to your account.

Once the pictures are in your account, you can use them with any Shutterfly products (such as calendars or cards), and you can use any of our borders and enhancements with the pictures.

For more information on our film service, see our film scanning help page.

Q: Does Shutterfly accept pre-developed negatives?
A:Currently, Shutterfly does not accept pre-developed negatives. You may wish to try a service that does this, such as Teffingo.com.

Q: Can I order prints from scanned images?
A:Yes, you can print scanned images; but note that for satisfactory prints, we recommend they be scanned at a minimum of 300 DPI and saved as high-quality (low-compression) JPEG files (.jpg). For more information, see our Tips & Techniques.

Incidentally, we do not offer an image-scanning service.

For scanned images, please note that we strongly recommend using the free online cropping tool, especially for large-format prints (11×14, 16×20, and 20×30). To crop 11×14 or 16×20, choose the 8×10 crop shape; for 20×30, use the 4×6 crop shape.

We also recommend taking extra care in making sure that your scanned image has no artifacts, scratch marks, etc. With large-format prints especially, any such imperfections will be greatly magnified.

For more information on cropping, see our Help Center's cropping page.
