I was nervous to order this with so many bad reviews. I just received it for a mother's day gift for my mom. You have to choose a close up picture of a face only as the charm size is only 1/2 inch squared. I had to redo my order when I realized this, luckily it was in the 30minute time frame to cancel. The chain is short, but comes down just past the collarbone. Since it is a gift, not sure if it will tarnish, but it looks good and the picture came out nice. The background was white (on an ice skating rink) so my daughter's face stood out nicely on it. I am hoping my mom loves it!

I too ordered this necklace a few years ago and loved it. I decided to order another one and was very disappointed. Very cheap looking and already scratching up. I think the Shutterfly logo on the back is tacky also. I don't recommend you buy this item!

I bought this back in 2010 when my son was born and again this year for my daughter. With my son's version, I put his monogram on the other side of the charm. It was perfect.
I had planned to do that with my daughters, but with this newer version, the shutterfly logo is on the back, so I can't put her monogram on it. SUPER disappointed.

This is NOT sterling silver--misleading title
I thought this would make a wonderful "first baby" keepsake for my daughter's first Mother's Day. The product title clearly states "Sterling Silver" but reading the reviews and the complete product description further on, I see it's really silver PLATED! HUGE DIFFERENCE there! I decided NOT to order it. For almost $50 I can do better elsewhere.

good charm, poor chain
The charm is small, but quality. The color isn't vibrant, but the image is clear. After wearing this daily for several months the chain began to turn green.

I bought 2 of these and love them the chain is not as long as I like so I took my off and had both charms on one chain with a spacer in between the pictures are very clear I would recommend them to other people I love shutterflys products.

My fault for not checking the size of the charm before ordering as it is small. The chain seems to be of lesser quality which makes me afraid to wear it as it is snug, even with the extender. Would not order again. Very happy with the calendar though!

I purchased this item as a Christmas gift for my mother with a picture of my daughter on it. The necklace came out beautifully and my mother adores it. The picture was very clear, the chain was a nice length and looked great. The silver has yet to tarnish which is a plus and it shipped fast and arrived discreetly packed. All in all a good item to give as gifts the receiver is sure to love it.

I don't see why there are so many bad reviews of this product. I love it. Mine is beautiful.
I would only have two minor problems.
The chain is very short. It is more like a choker. I have to use the extender to make it be a comfortable length.
Also, Shutterfly, you should suggest that the background color is one that makes the face stand out. I used a picture of my daughter in an outdoor background. It turned out washed out because her skin tone matched the background to close.
Overall though a great product!

First Time Disappointment
I ordered this as a gift for my mother. When she sent me pictures of what it actually looks like I was horrified. Picture blurry and can't even tell what it is. My mom said chain not even long enough to be a necklace, she thought was supposed to be a bracelet. 10+ year customer and first time disappointment, so I guess those odds aren't bad. Just sad that it had to be on the Christmas gift I ordered for my mom. Will be emailing customer service to see if any solution offered.

I purchased this for a friend who has lost her daughter. I received it yesterday. The chain is black and the photo is blurry. I can't send it back it's a christmas present. I have to replace the chain and I am just hoping she likes it. I read reviews saying three people max I have two faces and it just doesn't seem to be good. I would suggest this item for a child and not an adult. I go through shutterfly for a lot but definitely wont do jewelry anymore

I just received my photo necklace and was very disappointed. The quality is not good despite the almost $40.00 I spent which included shipping. The chain is very cheap so I will have to replace it with a new chain.
I buy alot from Shutterfly and this is the first time I have been disappointed in any of their items.
From now on I will only buy photos and prints and find quality venues for products.

I wear this necklace everyday with no issues. I get compliments on it almost daily. I do take it off for my shower. I am not sure why others have had problems with this item. I am considering buying another.

Chain Snags - Charm shows wear
I purchased this three months ago. I chose a photo of my two children. My three year old son loves seeing a picture of him and his sister around my neck and gives the charm a kiss every night at bedtime.
However, I'm not exactly thrilled with the overall quality of this product. After only a few weeks, I had to give in and switch out the chain. It has two loopholes to adjust the length; the longest is the only setting that would fit my neck and the shorter loophole would snag strands of hair at the nape of my neck, ripping it out.
After wearing this necklace for three months, during the heat of the summer, it shows wear already. I'm attributing this to either a) sweat (eww) or b) sunblock. Either way, the loop that holds the charm is worn and is now a copper color. There are also two small spots in the bottom corners of the charm/frame that are worn a copper color like this, and also along the bottom of the back. It also appears the clear coating over the photo itself is somehow mildly blotched by sweat/sunscreen.
Overall, I just like the idea that I can wear my childrens photo everywhere I go, but considering the cost compared to the quality of the product, I don't think it's a very good deal.

I ordered one of these for my sister last summer and it was fantastic. I just came back here to order one for myself and it looks different. I read all the comments and now I'm afraid to order one. Please go back to the original sterling silver necklace. It was perfect.

Love Sterling not the Plated
My sister bought me one of these for Christmas in 2011 and I fell in love with it! I told her that was the best gift she had ever given me. She bought me another one for Christmas in 2012. I HATE IT!!
The chain on the first necklace is pretty! I wear it all the time and never take it off. When I revieved the new necklace I was excited. When I put the necklace on I noticed the chain was not the quality of my first necklace. It was cheap looking. After I wore it for a few hours I noticed my hair was getting tangled up in the chain. I tried several times to wear it but the same thing kept happening. I finally switched back to my orginal necklace and my "new" one is back in the box, where sadly it will probably stay.
I think it would be wise to go back to the sterling chains and let the manufacturer of the new chains you are using keep their junk!

I haven't bought one - yet. Just reading reviews -- and its not looking like you have a response. ( i.e. it seems you don't care) Thanks for keeping all reviews + and - up though.. But wouldn't it be wise to offer BOTH necklaces if you still have some of the lesser ones in stock? At the very least, note vendor changes and be up front in your descriptions - I don't like to see you lose business!
