A second birthday party can be as large or small a gathering as you would like and may consist of family, friends or a combination of both. Your toddler isn’t likely to have many opinions on how to run the event, but may appreciate a themed party featuring a character from one of her favorite story books, television shows or movies. Whether your little one enjoys unicorns or trains, customize your 2nd birthday invitations to match their style. Once your guest list is finalized, focus on planning the other essential elements of your party.
Depending on the mix of guests, you may want to cater your food to the little people of the party. If you are inviting mostly family or adults, consider serving more grown-up fare. With a crowd of toddlers, plan on finger foods and items that are acceptable to most kids, such as fruit, cheese, crackers or mini pizzas. Be sure to cut anything prior to serving in order to prevent choking.
The cake will likely be the highlight of the party for many guests, especially the small ones. Cupcakes are a great way to make dessert finger-friendly. If you are serving ice cream, most of the small guests should be able to wield their own spoon, but use a tablecloth or drop cloth to ease in the cleanup process.
Little guests are sure to be entertained by your regular toys and a few of the new presents. Stories, dancing and simple games, such as red light green light are great to try, but don’t worry if playing alongside one another is enough for the party goers.
It’s always nice to provide a thank you favor for your guests. Toddlers will be happy with stickers, crayons or other age-appropriate toys. For grandparents or other adults, personalize a photo gift to remind them of your cutie pie.
