4 Weeks Pregnant

Your Baby is the Size of a Poppyseed

With four weeks in, the embryo now resembles a tadpole. It may take until about this time for you to even realize you're pregnant, especially if you've only missed your period by a week or so. Your baby is about 5mm long and its brain, spine and heart are developing. Early signs of spinal cord and brain connection are happening, and the limbs are also starting to develop. This is essentially the point where all vital organs will begin to sprout. You may be able to see the heartbeat in an ultrasound, as it's the first major organ to develop.

Your Pregnancy

No one is sure what causes morning sickness, but it’s suspected that the rising levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin, the pregnancy hormone) play a major part. It is important to abstain completely from alcohol, as doctors aren't sure how much or how little it takes to harm the baby.

DID YOU KNOW?

While cravings usually involve a specific food, it can just be an indicator of what your body needs. For example, if you crave pickles, your body could need something salty.
