Holiday Cards With Iconic Christmas Motifs

Christmas trees, ornaments, wreaths, stockings, candy canes, and Santa Claus are classic motifs for holiday cards. Stars, bells, and reindeer also bring a festive touch, while snowflakes and snowy scenes create a wintry look.

Choose a motif that reflects your holiday traditions and the mood you want to share. Wreaths and ornaments lend a classic feel, while Santa Claus and reindeer add a playful touch. Nativity scenes or the Star of Bethlehem can highlight the religious meaning of Christmas.

Family portraits, candid holiday moments, and pet photos can all complement Christmas motifs. A photo beside a decorated tree pairs well with ornament accents, while an outdoor winter portrait works beautifully with snowflakes. Keep the surrounding artwork simple when your photo has lots of detail.

Match your message to the imagery and your relationship with the recipient. “Merry Christmas from our family to yours” complements traditional designs, while “Wishing you a season full of wonder” suits playful motifs. Add a brief personal update or a heartfelt wish to make the greeting your own.

Red and green are a timeless pairing for Christmas trees, holly, and wreaths. Blue and white complement snowflakes and winter scenes, while cream and gold tones give stars and ornaments an elegant look. For photo holiday cards, draw one or two colors from your image to tie the design together.
