How To Announce A Graduation

Q: How do you announce a graduation?

Share the milestone with a graduation announcement featuring the graduate’s name, school, and graduating class year. You can also include a favorite photo, degree or diploma earned, and a brief message celebrating the achievement. Send announcements to family, friends, mentors, and others who have supported the graduate.

Q: What should you write on a graduation announcement?

Start with the essential details, then add wording that reflects the graduate’s personality. For a classic announcement, try: “With great pride, we announce the graduation of [Name] from [School], Class of [Year].” For a more casual approach, try: “A big achievement. A new adventure. [Name] is graduating from [School]!” Add honors or future plans if you’d like to share them.

Q: When should you send graduation announcements?

Graduation announcements are commonly sent shortly before the ceremony or within a few weeks afterward. If your announcement also invites recipients to a celebration, aim to send it about four to six weeks before the event so guests have time to plan. For announcements without an invitation, choose a time when you have the details and photos you want to share.

Q: What is the difference between a graduation announcement and a graduation invitation?

A graduation announcement shares the news of an academic milestone, while a graduation invitation asks someone to attend the ceremony or a celebration. Invitations should include the event date, time, location, and RSVP details. If ceremony seating is limited, send invitations only to those invited to attend and use announcements to share the achievement with a wider circle.

Q: How can you personalize a graduation announcement?

Make the announcement feel personal with a senior portrait, a cap-and-gown photo, or a candid image that captures the graduate’s interests. Use school colors, a meaningful quote, or a short message of thanks to tell more of their story. Keep the graduate’s name and school details easy to read, and choose a tone that matches how they want to celebrate.

Deciding how to announce a graduation? Browse graduation announcement options for a style that reflects your graduate’s personality and achievement. Plan to include their name, school, and graduation year, and choose wording that clearly shares the news. If you’re also inviting recipients to a celebration, include the date, time, location, and RSVP details.
