A garden is one of the most intimate and romantic settings for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The natural beauty of seasonal blossoms and foliage along with garden-specific decorations such as pergolas, fountains, and benches create an enchanted wedding location that works well with nearly any wedding theme.
“Couples who opt for garden ceremonies are often non-traditional and want a ceremony that feels intimate,” says creative director and event planner Jessica Sloane.
While Jessica’s approach to wedding design begins with the couple’s relationship, she also considers the natural environment as inspiration for the final look and feel of the wedding.
“It’s important to draw inspiration from your garden venue in addition to who you are as a couple,” says Jessica.
With this approach, the final wedding design becomes a custom take on the garden wedding theme that reflects a couple’s unique love story.
But before this precious design can be brought to life at the venue, the garden-inspired look gets revealed to friends and family through the wedding invitations.
Garden Wedding Invitations
There are many types of gardens fit for exchanging your vows, from rose gardens to desert cactus gardens to national forest backdrops. The amount and type of lush greenery you want to incorporate into your invitation design is up to you.
“I’ve had clients pick monograms or motifs with a little bit of green, vines or trees as part of the sketch to represent where they are getting married,” says Jessica. “It’s also nice to use raw versus refined textures, like cotton or handmade paper.”
As far as Jessica’s desired approach?
“I love incorporating calligraphy with a more modern and organic style. I feel like this approach really fits with garden ceremonies that are less traditional because the style feels more casual and whimsical.”
