Floating A Print In A Frame

Q: What is the benefit of floating a print in a frame compared to traditional framing?

Floating a print in a frame creates a unique visual effect by suspending the artwork above the backing, allowing the edges of the print to be visible and casting a subtle shadow. This technique highlights deckled or textured edges and gives the piece a three-dimensional, gallery-inspired look that enhances both photographs and art prints.

Q: What types of prints work best with floating frames?

Floating frames are especially well-suited for prints with interesting edges, such as fine art prints, handmade papers, or photographs with deckled or torn borders. However, they also work beautifully with standard photographs and art prints, adding depth and a sense of sophistication to any image.

Q: Who might enjoy receiving a floating framed print as a gift?

A floating framed print makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who appreciates art or personal memories. It’s ideal for commemorating special occasions like anniversaries, graduations, or housewarmings, and is also a meaningful way to share family photos, vacation memories, or a child’s artwork.

Q: How should I care for a print that’s been floated in a frame?

To keep your floated print looking its best, display it away from direct sunlight and high humidity. Dust the frame gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using cleaning sprays on the glass or frame to preserve the materials and finish.

Q: Can floating frames be used in a gallery wall arrangement?

Yes, floating frames add visual interest to gallery walls by introducing depth and variation. Mixing floated prints with traditionally framed pieces can create a dynamic and curated display that showcases your favorite images and artwork in a fresh, modern way.
