Wedding Invitations

Wedding Invitation FAQs

When should wedding invitations be sent?
Wedding invitations are typically sent 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. Destination weddings may require sending invitations about 3 months in advance.

Can Shutterfly mail my wedding invitations for me?
Yes. With Shutterfly's Mail for Me® service, you can have your wedding invitations professionally addressed, stamped, and mailed directly to your guests, saving time while ensuring every invitation arrives ready to celebrate your big day.

How do I choose the right wedding invitation?
Start with your wedding style, venue, and level of formality to narrow down your design. Then consider details like photo vs. non-photo layouts, paper type, and finishes to match your overall look. With Shutterfly, you can explore different templates and customize colors, fonts, and wording until the design feels right for your celebration.

Can wedding invitations include photos?
Yes. Many wedding invitation designs allow you to add your own photos, including engagement photos and couple portraits.

What information should be included on a wedding invitation?
Include the couple’s names, wedding date, time, and venue. Optional details like dress code or a wedding website can also be added.

Are envelopes included with wedding invitations?
Yes. Envelopes are included with every order. You can upgrade to custom envelopes with liners and enjoy free recipient address printing for a polished finish.

Do I need RSVP cards?
RSVP cards help you track responses and finalize your guest count. Many invitation designs include matching RSVP cards, or you can direct guests to RSVP online through your wedding website.

How many wedding invitations should I order?
Most couples order one invitation per household, plus an extra 10 to 15 percent for keepsakes or last‑minute additions.

How can I make affordable wedding invitations?
To keep costs down, choose flat formats, standard cardstock, and simple trims. Skipping premium finishes like foil or glitter can also help you stay within budget.

What's the difference between save the dates and wedding invitations?
Save the dates are sent earlier to share your wedding date and location. Invitations are sent closer to the wedding and include full event details and RSVP information. For more details, check out our guide on Save the Dates vs Invitations.

Can I order matching wedding invitation suites?
Yes. Many Shutterfly invitation designs include matching RSVP cards, details cards, and wedding thank you cards so you can create a cohesive wedding stationery suite. You can also find coordinating designs for events like engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, and more.
