Summer Decorating Ideas for Your Home

The following guest post was created by Amber from Snippets of Design.

It’s finally warming up outside which means it’s time to brighten things up around the house as well. To help, I’ve made a list of some of my favorite DIY projects for your inspiration. Here are some fun summer decorating ideas that you can create with Shutterfly products.

Fun Summer Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen

Did you know that calories don’t count in the summer?  I mean, obviously, they melt from the sunshine (or, I wish they did anyways).

Regardless of whether they really melt off or not, a warm weather treat tin or food container is a great place to store summer snacks. It creates easy access for vacationing kiddos and it looks great in your kitchen. Even if the tin is supposed to be a tin for pet food, it can easily be customized for humans, and I love the look of it.

It says “WARM WEATHER TREATS – it’s okay, calories don’t count in the summer.”

Summer Decor for the Living Room

One of the nicest things about summer is the free time that opens up. I love reading when I have free time so I thought it would be nice to add a small reading nook.

I decorated the wall next to the reading nook with some inspirational boho-style art and pictures of my family.

The dreamcatcher print reads: “don’t lose your daydream.”

The heart in hand print says: “The happiest people are the givers, not the takers.”

(See the photos, that’s my daughter Brittany and I. 😊)

The feather print reads: “be the WOMAN you needed as a girl.”

They look great printed on Shutterfly easel back canvases and hanging canvas prints.

They would also look great printed on Shutterfly’s premium cardstock.

Bathroom Summer Decor Ideas

To match the boho theme, I printed a variety of feathers on the premium cardstock.

I am obsessed with the way they turned out.

I added them to my newly remodeled bathroom.

Additionally, I included 11 different feather styles for you to choose from.

I think they would look great on a wall in an arrangement of nine if you wanted to give it a try.

Decorations for a Summer Living Room

For the kitchen and dining room, I designed some plates in a bright summer color scheme.

These are so pretty in person. I also designed a simple matching menu that you can use, or get inspired to customize your own.

The plates even worked great for Easter dinner.

A Quick Bedroom Decor Suggestion

Speaking of plates, this glass jewelry tray works great as an organizer. At the same time, it helps to brighten your bedroom and serves as a reminder to live fully, every day.

Decorating the Backyard for the Warm Weather

When I think of summer, I think about the beach, water, and spending hours in the sun. That’s why I wanted to showcase a few summer decoration ideas for having fun in the sun (or in your backyard).

To start, I customized a backyard lounge chair and seating area. This pillow says “Dear Beach, I THINK ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIME.”

And this wooden ornament beach bag charm reads: “barefoot & carefree THE BEACH IS WHERE I WANT TO BE.”

Summer is also a time to relax and enjoy picnics, so you’ll want to make sure you have all the right gear.

These melamine plates work great for picnics.  They travel well and they are shatterproof.

You can even create a matching picnic blanket. Additionally, this actually serves as a year-round gift because Shutterfly’s fleece blankets are so soft and cozy.

Finally, Summer wouldn’t be complete without at least one evening of s’mores around the fire pit.

A simple s’mores bar makes an average evening feel like an event. I created mine with glass jars and food tags. I printed the food tags on metal luggage tags.  Honestly, I was really nervous about doing this but I’m really happy with they way they turned out.

I’m always pleasantly surprised with the quality of Shutterfly’s products and these tags were no different.

Backyard BBQ Decor With a Father’s Day Twist

But the summer fun doesn’t end at the fire pit. BBQ’s are another summer staple.

We don’t have an outdoor kitchen yet which means there isn’t much room next to the BBQ. I wondered if some of you might have the same problem so I thought a BBQ station would be a great way to add some summer décor to the backyard.

Plus, because Shutterfly offers aprons, napkins, and tea towels, a BBQ station doubles beautifully as a creative Father’s Day gift.

You can purchase most of the supplies for this project at your local, international, DIY furniture store.

Use a craft cutting machine to create the tags and chalkboard graphics or simply print and cut the tags by hand.

Use bakers’ twine to attach the tags. Then, purchase some bamboo silverware and plates online and enjoy one heck of a BBQ!
