What to Include on Wedding RSVP Cards
When creating custom RSVP cards for weddings, include the details guests need to respond clearly and on time:
- Attendance Confirmation: Give guests a simple way to indicate whether they will attend your wedding celebration.
- RSVP Deadline: Include a response date so you can finalize your guest list and wedding plans.
- Meal Selection: If you're offering menu choices, provide space for guests to indicate their preference.
- Dietary Restrictions: Allow guests to share food allergies or special dietary accommodations.
- Guest Names: Include a line for names to ensure every response is clearly identified.
- Response Method: Let guests know whether they should return the card by mail or respond online.
Including these key details helps simplify wedding planning and makes it easier to manage guest responses leading up to your wedding day.
Frequently Asked Questions

What is proper etiquette for wedding RSVP?
Proper RSVP etiquette involves sending RSVP cards well in advance and providing guests with a clear deadline. Always include a pre-addressed and stamped envelope or instructions for an online RSVP.
Do people still use RSVP cards for weddings?
Yes. RSVP cards remain a popular part of traditional wedding invitation suites and provide an easy way for guests to confirm attendance. Many couples choose to include printed RSVP cards, while others offer online responses through a wedding website for added convenience.
How far in advance should I send wedding RSVP cards?
Send your wedding RSVP cards 6-8 weeks before the wedding and ask guests to respond at least 2-4 weeks before the event. This timeline gives you enough time to finalize your guest count.
Can I request dietary preferences on my RSVP cards?
Yes, it’s common to ask guests for dietary preferences or restrictions, especially if your wedding includes a formal meal.
Do you send RSVP cards with wedding invitations?
Yes, it's traditional to include RSVP cards with your wedding invitations. This allows guests to easily confirm their attendance and provide any necessary details, like meal preferences or special requests. Including a pre-addressed and stamped envelope or instructions for an online RSVP makes it convenient for your guests to respond. By pairing your response cards with your invitations, you ensure everything is cohesive and organized, which helps streamline your wedding planning.
Do you send RSVP cards with save the dates?
No, RSVP cards are not sent with save the dates. Save the dates are typically mailed 6–8 months before the wedding to give guests a heads-up about the event. RSVP cards are sent later with the formal wedding invitations, usually 6–8 weeks before the wedding, allowing guests enough time to confirm their attendance and provide any necessary details, such as meal preferences.
