"This is a tiny 100+ year old partially-hand-colored family photo (oddly sized, probably about 3X7) that I scanned at 600 dpi, digitally restored and color-corrected using a great program called Recolored (time-consuming and tricky until you get the hang of it, but the results are phenomenal), and my efforts yielded a true work of art. Through Shutterfly I've had it printed on metal, paper, plastic (the padded cover of a family photo book), and woven into a blanket (the original photo is taped to the blanket in the picture below to give an idea of how much it was blown up).
I had to saturate the color on the blanket so it wouldn't turn out too dark; the paper prints (on various stock) all look oversaturated although they're not; and the plastic book cover looks good... but there's absolutely no question that the metal print turned out the best. The details are clearly defined, the colors are properly saturated and really pop, and the glossy finish adds a nice sheen to the photograph (though it's SO glassy that I wonder if the matte finish would've looked better).
My only complaint is the hanging apparatus - I bought this as a birthday present for my mom to hang over her mantle. The larger aluminum prints require two nails/screws, which is totally unnecessary given the light weight. Shutterfly provides a cardboard plate to drive the nails through so they're properly placed, but it was still a difficult feat going into brick and mortar - it would've been nice if I could have used the single nail that was already there for the heavier wooden-frame photo that I replaced. Annoyingly, I wound up chipping the paint on the bottom setting it on the fireplace while trying to get the nails even, which never would have happened if it required a single nail (and/or had I not scraped it on brick).
The hefty price tag on the metal prints is certainly off-putting but from what I've seen this is the best that Shutterfly has to offer. Aluminum is easy to clean and doesn't rust, so "

"I took advantage of the 40% off everything sale to put my pictures on the metal wall art. We had just returned from a trip to Holland and I had beautiful pictures of tulips. The timing couldn't have been better and the price was right.
I received it on time and was extremely pleased on the clarity and true color on the metal. Already friends have asked where I got it."

"I was hesitant to order a new product that had so few reviews but it turned out perfect! Based on another's review, I bought the matte finish and it looks great. We ordered a horizontal print and thankfully, we were able to attach the hardware on the back ourselves so we could hang it correctly."

"this is a great idea to combine your favorite pictures in one "frame". Not only is it different then just an ordinary frame, it is sleek and stylish. My only reason for not making it a 5 star product is that some of the pictures aren't as clearly printed and the tint is slightly reddish."
